NANCY JOSLIN TROY Yale University History of Art Department May 23, 1978 Mrs. Tr. Schroder-Schrader Prins Hendriklaan 50 Utrecht Dear Mrs. Schroder-Schrader: As you may recall, I am completing my researches for a Ph.D. dissertation dealing wlth the painted abstract interiors of the De Stijl and related artists. You were very kind to invite me to visit you ln Utrecht last summer and I hope I am not inconveniencing you unduly by writing once again in connection with Rietveld. For my present study, Rietveld's early collaboration wlth Vilmos Huszar is very Important. I am particularly anxious to learn as much as possible about the exhibition space they deslgned together in 1923. I understand that it was for an exhibition in Berlin in October of that year. Do you by any chance know if Rietveld actually went to Berlin then, or indeed to Germany in 1923? There seems to be some question about whether the exhibition space was reallzed in full scale and I wonder if you mlght have any ldea about this. I also would like to know more about Rietveld's worklng relationship with Huszar, how and when they met and so forth. Would it be possible for me to visit you once again to discuss these issues? My Dutch is now far better than when we first met and since my research is also much further along, the öpportunlty to speak with you briefly again would be most valuable. I have addressed these questions to Gerrit Qorthuys and G.A. Van der Groenekan and they both advised me that you would be the best person to consult in this regard. On May 31 I am planning to leave for 6 weeks in the U.S., but I could come to Utrecht on Monday or Tuesday, May 29 or 30, or, if more convenient for you, any time after July 13. If you would let me know a date and time, I will arrange my schedule accordingly. Elease accept my very real thanks once again for your con-tlnuing consideration in this regard and, in the mean time, I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, MM^T JftTs] Nancy Troy I Elandsgracht 41 1016TN Amsterdam
