De Wijk Centraal

With De Wijk Centraal, we want to lower the threshold for visiting a museum for Utrecht residents who do not automatically visit a museum. So that all residents of Utrecht feel welcome in our museum, no matter what neighborhood you come from.

Art in the neighborhood

To make people from all parts of Utrecht curious about visiting the museum, we go into the neighborhoods ourselves. We do that with our mobile museum on wheels. It contains reproductions of works of art that allow local residents to get acquainted with our collection in an accessible way. In addition, we also organize workshops and other activities in community centers, youth cultural centers and libraries.

The neighborhood in the museum

We also bring the neighborhoods to the museum by arranging transport from neighborhoods such as Kanaleneiland, Overvecht and Leidsche Rijn. Local residents are picked up by bus for a visit to the museum and brought back home later in the day. A cup of coffee or tea is ready in the museum and there is the opportunity to attend activities, visit the collection and talk to other local residents.
