Accessibility main building

The Central Museum has a special route for wheelchair and baby carriage users. Ask about it at the ticket desk or download (PDF) the route before your visit.

The entresols of the Stables are only accessible by stairs.

Some doors are difficult for wheelchair and walker users to open. It may therefore be convenient to bring a companion with you during your visit.

Gehandicaptenparkeerplaatsen

In Utrecht, people with a disabled parking permit always park for free. In general disabled parking spaces, the disabled parking card must be placed behind the windshield. This is sufficient. On the Nicolaaskerkhof, next to the museum, there are two disabled parking spaces. Both parking spots have a presence sensor, so you can use the On Wheels app to see if these spots are free.

Gratis entree voor begeleiders

Visitors who find it difficult to visit the museum independently may bring a companion. This companion may enter for free. The companion ticket is only available at the Centraal Museum box office. Upon arrival, please report to one of the staff members in the entrance hall. This person will be happy to help you.

Rolstoeltoegankelijke toiletten

Er zijn twee rolstoeltoegankelijke toiletten: bij de garderobe en bij het auditorium/de Stallen.

Scootmobielen

It is possible to visit the museum with a mobility scooter (no larger than 120 cm long, 70 cm wide and 109 cm high), however, you may be asked about the speed of the mobility scooter and skills in operating it. In some cases, such as when it is very busy, security may decide not to allow a mobility scooter into the museum. By mutual agreement, we will see if it is possible to visit the museum in another way or at another time.

Wheelchairs, walkers and stools available to borrow

It is also possible to borrow walking aids. The museum has wheelchairs and a walker that visitors can borrow. You can reserve these in advance at info@centraalmuseum.nl. The museum also has several folding, lightweight stools available for those who prefer not to stand for too long.

Hulphonden

Het museum is toegankelijk voor bezoekers met een hulphond, als deze voorzien is van een tuigje.

Blinde en slechtziende bezoekers

The media guide (accessed on a smartphone) is suitable for screen readers. The museum organizes multi-sensory tours for blind and visually impaired visitors. Dates, times and program are published in the activity calendar.

Dove en slechthorende bezoekers

• Audiofragmenten in de mediaguide zijn daar ook als tekst beschikbaar. Video's worden ondertiteld.
• Het museum organiseert regelmatig rondleidingen in Nederlandse Gebarentaal, gegeven door een dove rondleider. Bekijk de activiteitenagenda voor actuele data.
• Al onze podcastafleveringen zijn voorzien van transcripten via Apple Podcasts.

Bezoekers met kleurenblindheid

Special Enchroma glasses are available for visitors with red-green color blindness. These glasses allow people with certain types of color blindness (Protan and Deutan) to see the colors in the artworks enhanced, clear and with richer contrast, offering a unique experience.

You can borrow the glasses at the front desk in the museum store. If you would like to reserve glasses, please email info@centraalmuseum.nl. Please indicate the type of color blindness for which you would like to reserve glasses. Click here to take an online test to determine the type. Due to the costliness of the glasses, we ask for a deposit of €100.
