Jan van de Pavert uses a wide range of media and materials for his work, including painting, sculpture and computer animation. He is interested in utopian movements and projects from the 20thcentury, from 1920s modernism to the hippy culture of the sixties. He imagines what the ideals of then would look like today. With his Tubular Steel Furniture he builds further on the innovative furniture designs by Bauhaus designer Marcel Breuer. This cube by Van de Pavert consists of an uninterrupted tube, bent at 26 points. For the fabric he used canvas, made of the same ‘Eisengarn’ (iron thread) that Breuer used almost 100 years previously. [text 2023]
