Jessica Stockholder, 1991
From the early 1990s on, Jessica Stockholder became known for her colourful, picturesque and monumental installations. In her work she combines all sorts of everyday items – umbrellas, cushions, furniture pieces, lamps, and so on – to form a playful new whole. With her open gaze, Stockholder stimulates the viewer to take a fresh look at the things and materials that surround us every day, thereby undermining ingrained ideas about what’s valuable and what’s not.
