Accessibility

The Centraal Museum has four different locations that can be rented out. To ensure that all guests feel welcome and know where they stand, the facilities are described for each location. In addition to visible challenges that can be physically taken into account, our employees are familiar with the Sunflower Keycord. This is a lanyard for people with an invisible disability, such as autism, Alzheimer's, dementia, PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome).

Garden room

The Garden Room consists of two spaces: the Upstairs Garden Room and the Downstairs Garden Room. The Lower Room is located on the ground floor and the Upper Room can be reached by stairs or elevator. The toilets in the building are gender neutral. A symbol on the door indicates whether there is an accessible toilet, changing table, urinal or toilet.

In addition to the two halls, toilets, a cloakroom and foyer, there are no separate areas for pumping or praying. If one of the two rooms is vacant on the day of the event, this space can be used for this purpose. If no space is available on location, we will be happy to consult with you to find a suitable solution.

People with a physical disability

The Garden Room is best reached via the entrance at Nicolaasdwarsstraat 14. The sidewalk is lowered in front of the door, making it easier to reach the entrance doors with a wheelchair or walker;

• The entrance doors to the Garden Room are 280 cm wide and have a small threshold of 3 cm;
• The passages to the halls are 105 cm wide and barrier-free;
• Access to the wardrobe is 95 cm wide and barrier-free, we are happy to help you hang your coat;
• There is an elevator in the building (L150cm x W90cm x H210cm);
• There is an accessible toilet with a low sink (the entrance door is 88 cm wide and the hall that leads to it is 150 cm wide);
• In consultation with the museum shop, two wheelchairs can be made available. Foldable stools can also be borrowed. Prior to the event, we would like to hear if you would like to make use of this;

People with an auditory disability

At the moment, there is no ring line in the Garden Rooms yet.

The museum does not have an interpreter who speaks Dutch sign language. If you wish, this can be arranged for you. We would like to hear this 30 days prior to the event via evenementen@centraalmuseum.nl. Please mention which language the sign language interpreter should be able to interpret. Please note: due to a shortage of sign interpreters, we cannot guarantee that an interpreter will be available.

Visually impaired people

• Service dogs are welcome at our location provided they are provided with a harness;
• The employees are happy to explain the menu;
• The employees are happy to help pour drinks and scoop up food. This will then be brought to the right place and can place it in the right place;
• The lighting in the halls can be adjusted in both Kelvin and Lumen. If you benefit from a certain adjustment, we can provide this.

We have not set up a separate room for people who are sensitive to stimuli. In consultation with our employees, the options can be considered prior to the meeting or on the day itself.

Museum garden

The museum garden borders the Garden Hall and consists of a gravel path and a raised terrace, as shown in the photo below

People with a physical disability

There is a portable ramp measuring L180cm x W74cm, with a maximum load capacity of 350 kilograms. This can be used to access the terrace in the museum garden.

Visually impaired people

Service dogs are welcome if they are equipped with a harness.

Auditorium

This space is located in the museum's so-called stables. The Auditorium can be reached via the main entrance. On the route, you can use the appropriate lifts. There is also a passage from the Garden Room, which can be opened in consultation.

People with a physical disability

The Auditorium has an arena setup with fixed seats. It is possible to take a seat in front of the first row with the wheelchair.

There is an accessible toilet in front of the entrance to the Auditorium.

People with an auditory disability

There is a loop. You can indicate on the day if you want to make use of this. The museum does not have an interpreter who speaks Dutch sign language. If you wish, this can be arranged for you. We would like to hear this 30 days prior to the event via evenementen@centraalmuseum.nl. Please mention which language the sign language interpreter should speak. Please note: due to a shortage of sign interpreters, we cannot guarantee that an interpreter will be available.

Visually impaired people

The hall has an arena setup, where the different rows can be reached via a staircase. The steps are not individually illuminated. The Auditorium has a ceiling and two tinted glass walls. As a result, the space is a bit darker.

Museum cafe

Located next to the museum, at Nicolaaskerkhof 10, the Museum Café is accessible to both museum visitors and outside visitors. From Tuesday to Sunday between 10:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., the café is open to regular audiences. Outside, the museum café can be rented for exclusive receptions.

The toilets in the museum are gender neutral. Two toilets and a changing table can be reached by stairs at the museum café. An accessible toilet and four toilets can be reached via the elevator next to the café.

People with a physical disability

As a non-museum visitor, you can enter the museum café from the outside. Entrance doors are 160 cm wide with a 5 cm threshold.

As a museum visitor, you can reach the café via the museum. The café is located on the ground floor and is barrier-free. The café can be reached via other floors with a lift.

Visually impaired people

• Service dogs are welcome at our location provided they are provided with a harness.
• The employees are happy to read the menu aloud.
• The employees are happy to help pour drinks and can put it in the right place.

For people who are sensitive to stimuli: The café does not have an irritation-free space. The café is generally the busiest between 12:00 — 15:00.

Parking and accessibility

Parking

There are two accessible parking spaces at the Nicolaaskerkhof, around the corner from the Garden Hall. This requires a disability card, which can be requested from the Municipality. Both parking spaces have a presence sensor, so you can see if there is space via the On Wheels website or app. The parking spaces are 140 meters away from the Garden Room. This is also always free for people with a disability card.

Public transport

There is a bus stop at the Nicolaaskerkhof, around the corner from the Garden Hall. The bus stop is 150 metres away from the Garden Room. You can take bus line 2 and leave the bus at the 'Centraal Museum' stop. From here, guide lines run across the sidewalk and there are several lowered sidewalks towards the location.

Parking exemptions

If there is no space in the vicinity, we can - if available - provide a maximum of three parking exemptions per day. This allows you to park freely within the area around our location. We also have one spot available on the site next to the location. Please indicate in advance if you want to make use of this and our employees will ensure that the gate is open.
