Offering art objects
A significant part of the museum's collection was acquired as a loan, bequest or donation from individuals or foundations. The museum still collects by acquiring objects in this way.
The Centraal Museum is offered (art) objects every week as an addition to the collection. Each offer is carefully weighed. Possible interesting pieces will be submitted to the Curators' Consultation, where it will be tested whether an object fits into our collection. Because we invest a lot of time and money in our collection, we carefully weigh every addition to the collection. In order to make that decision, we need as much information as possible about the items offered.
Please send the offer by email or letter to the Collection Management Department, including one or more good photos and answers to the following questions:
- Who is the creator of the object?
- Is the piece dated and signed?
- Are there brands/stamps, etc. on the object?
- How and when did the item come into your possession?
- Who were previous owners?
- How do you want to transfer the object to the Centraal Museum (for example as a donation, long-term loan, sale)? In case of sale, please state the asking price)?
Once we have received the above information, you will be notified of the decision from the Collection Management Department. Because the Conservators' Consultation only takes place once a month and we want to work carefully, it may take a few weeks before you receive a response.
Note: Never bring objects to the museum without an appointment. These will not be received.
