Loan policy

The Centraal Museum has a generous loan policy. Every year, it lends around 250 collection items to around 70 exhibitions at home and abroad. In order to keep loan traffic on the right track, we have drawn up the rules below. In addition, our loan terms.

Behind the scenes, we are busy preparing to move all 70,000 objects to a new depot in 2028. We are in favour of a generous lending policy, but are now forced to take action. That is why, until 2029, we ask that you only request the truly essential pieces for your exhibition. We also ask for your understanding of the strict application period of 6 months for loans. Exceptions to this are no longer possible. When everything is over, we would like to return to the generous loan capacity for which we are known.

A loan application must be submitted at least six months before the commencement date of the loan. Your request includes the following information:

• name and address of the institution requesting the loan
• contact person (name, position, phone, postal address, e-mail)
• current facility report of the institution
• reason for request (exhibition, research, etc.) and short description of the project
• exhibition period (s), name and place
• item list with inventory numbers

Applications will only be considered after submitting a written request addressed to the director via the mailbox. loans@centraalmuseum.nl.

Costs resulting from the loan (e.g. condition reports, packaging) are charged. After a loan application has been processed and the borrower decides to (partially) withdraw the loan request, the costs incurred will be passed on.
