Dick Bruna Studio

A workspace full of personal details

In his studio in an attic in the city center of Utrecht, Dick Bruna (1927 - 2017) made his drawings and designs for years. This studio now has a permanent place in the Centraal Museum.

In Atelier Dick Bruna, you get the feeling of being very close to Dick Bruna as an artist and as a person. Here you can see the place where he drew and wrote texts on his typewriter. Where he received publishers, Japanese fans, students and the press at his table. But also his inspiration in the form of books and magazines about artists and designers. Bruna surrounded herself with lots of personal things: photos, cards, gifts, notes. All objects in Atelier Dick Bruna, from pencil to chest of drawers, were in Bruna's former workspace.
For Rietveld, Schröder's assignment is a dream come true. He makes it an exuberant experiment, completely in De Stijl style.

Dick Bruna's work

Atelier Dick Bruna shows that Dick Bruna's work is much broader than the drawings for Miffy and her friends, which are intended for children. In changing presentations, Bruna's versatility is shown. Consider, for example, his designs for Black Bears or for organizations such as Amnesty International and the Red Cross. Get to know Bruna's way of working and see how he manages to get to the essence of an image every time.
