650 years of the province of Utrecht
Utrecht's provincial democracy as we know it today originated exactly 650 years ago. In 1375, the Stichtse Landbrief was signed, an important document that gave the people living in Utrecht a say in the ins and outs of the province for the first time. Much has changed in 650 years, but history is still visible and tangible all over Utrecht.
Wander through the gates of impressive castles, follow old tank canals or explore the Utrechtse Heuvelrug as you discover the rich history of the area. During this cycling route, you'll hear more about the locations and events that shaped Utrecht in an interactive way. Stories, maps and images from Munnicks van Cleeff collection, enrich the experience and literally bring the past to your fingertips.
This activity is part of the program of Drawing from Nature and the 650 year celebration of the Province of Utrecht.
