Commissioned by Centraal Museum, Iris van Herpen designed this avatar-like top in collaboration with architect Isaïe Bloch. The sculptural creation is reminiscent of a skeleton: the human body is Van Herpen’s starting point, the catwalk her most important stage. Driven by the conviction that technical development – such as the 3D printing technique used here – propels fashion forward, she challenges herself and others to keep pushing boundaries. [text 2026]

Iris van Herpen

Modeontwerper Iris van Herpen start in 2007 haar gelijknamige modehuis. Ze maakt een onwisbare indruk door de combinatie van schijnbare tegenstellingen: traditioneel vakmanschap met innovatie en eeuwenoude mythologie met het virtueel metaversum. In 2011 organiseert het Centraal Museum haar eerste solotentoonstelling: Het nieuwe ambacht: Iris van Herpen en haar inspiratie. Ook koopt het museum verschillende werken aan, en geeft een opdracht voor een 3D geprinte top.
