For her spring collection Fragile Futurity Iris van Herpen explored the similarities and differences between humans and other animals in ‘animal-people’ – creatures in which natural instinct and human reason come together. Horns, wings and fur meet metres of industrial steel wire and synthetic yarns. The designs, such as this hairy dress, show her vision of a future that is fragile and vulnerable, yet technologically advanced. [text 2025]

Iris van Herpen

Modeontwerper Iris van Herpen start in 2007 haar gelijknamige modehuis. Ze maakt een onwisbare indruk door de combinatie van schijnbare tegenstellingen: traditioneel vakmanschap met innovatie en eeuwenoude mythologie met het virtueel metaversum. In 2011 organiseert het Centraal Museum haar eerste solotentoonstelling: Het nieuwe ambacht: Iris van Herpen en haar inspiratie. Ook koopt het museum verschillende werken aan, en geeft een opdracht voor een 3D geprinte top.
