‘Are we designers or artists? Perhaps it’s possible to be both.’ Fashion house Viktor&Rolf has been exploring the overlap between couture and art for over 30 years. Through grand gestures and explicit statements, fashion is often literally turned on its head. The Flowers collection was created when Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren experimented with floral fragrances. The Abbey dress consists of interconnected floral corsages. Two years later, they launched their first - and now iconic - perfume: Flowerbomb. [text 2024]

Viktor & Rolf

Viktor en Rolf ontmoeten elkaar tijdens hun opleiding aan ArtEZ en vormen sindsdien een ontwerpersduo. Hun internationale doorbraak vindt plaats in 1993 in het Franse Hyères, waar ze tijdens de Salon Européen des Jeunes Styles drie prijzen in de wacht slepen met hun Hyères jurk - collectie van het Centraal Museum. Het maximaliseren van (onderdelen van) een ontwerp visualiseert Viktor& Rolfs roep naar creatieve vrijheid en kan als metafoor gezien worden om hun visie over te dragen. In 2008 was er een grote overzichtstentoonstelling in het Centraal Museum.

Notes: De collectie 'Flowers' (lente/zomer 2003) kwam uit toen Viktor & Rolf zich in de wereld van de geur verdiepten. Twee jaar later zou hun eerste parfum, Flowerbomb, bij de gelijknamige show gelanceerd worden.
