People in the early Middle Ages were actively concerned with their health and appearance. This is apparent from the discovery of many items such as combs, tweezers and even what appears to be a washbasin. Amulets were intended to protect the wearer from bad luck. The bracelets with snake heads symbolised immortality and fertility.
