Framework
Video art in the windows of the Centraal Museum.
On the facade of the museum building, the museum has installed 6 LED screens where customized video art can be displayed. This is in line with the museum's ambition to be more visible outside its own walls. The screens are placed behind six windows of the neo-Gothic building, winking at the Gothic tradition of stained glass windows.
Because the form of display is so different, we ask an artist or collective to create a new work or adapt an existing work for the façade. The assignment here is that the content matches the subject of the main exhibition that will then take place in the museum. For example, three times a year, a work is shown for several weeks in a row, parallel to the duration of the exhibition. A number of the new productions are also being acquired for the collection.
Window carousel
During the period that the large exhibition halls are being converted and therefore there is no matching video, the museum shows the Framework Collection as if in a carousel. Then a different work is on display every consecutive day and the collection, which is gradually growing, is reused over and over again. The Framework Carousel is like an ode to the museum's kaleidoscopic collection; colorful and varied.
