About the work
Mantra II, a video performance by artist Shertise Solano, shows mouths speaking or singing rhythmically and urgently, yet unable to be heard. It is an adaptation of her work Mantra (2018), in which she brings together the musical composition Somebody Else’s Idea (1970) by Sun Ra with imagery inspired by the play Not I (1973) by Samuel Beckett.
Mantra and Mantra II are on display through August 10, 2026, and were previously part of the exhibitionMove You Fool.
