Duran Lantink is one of the greatest talents of the beginning of the 21th century working at the interface between fashion, styling and art. In 2018 Lantink achieved instant world fame: he created the striking vagina pants that played a leading role in American pop star Janelle Monáe’s videoclip PYNK. To quote Monáe: ‘PYNK is a brash celebration of creation, self love, sexuality and pussy power! PYNK is the colour that unites us all.’ The clip went viral and was viewed twelve million times soon after its release. It was the former Rietveld Academy student’s international breakthrough. The pants were purchased and shown in an exhibition at the iconic Fashion Institute of Technology in New York in 2018. Lantink was drawn into the project by Emma Westenberg, the Dutch director of the video.
