The Centraal Museum acquired several concert dresses in 2017 which were worn by the classical singer Mia Peltenburg. This black silk crepe dress with a diamond pattern of different red beads with the appearance of coral, which continues on to the sleeves, is one of them. The delicate quality of the dresses, the appeal of their roaring twenties origin and the fact that there is a relatively large amount of information about the wearer all contribute to making this donation exceptionally interesting. Mia Peltenburg (1897-1975) had an international career as a soprano, including at least five performances in Utrecht. Her teacher was the famous organist and composer Hendrik Andriessen, who was appointed as director of the Utrecht Conservatorium in 1937. He dedicated his Magna Res est Amor to her. Mia Peltenburg also sang under the direction of great conductors such as Willem Mengelenberg, which whom she toured Europe giving concerts by Gustav Mahler and Franz Schubert.
