To this day special historical costumes are sometimes stumbled upon in attics and wardrobes. This dress is a recent example of such a lucky find: it was discovered by chance during a visit to Landgoed Linschoten in 2016. The country house was owned by the Utrecht cigar family Ribbius Peletier from 1891-1969, after which it was transferred to a trust to preserve the estate by the last heir, Gerlacus Ribbius Peletier junior (1887-1969). The especially good condition of the dress leads us to believe, although in such situations we may only guess, that it has hardly been worn. It is highly probable, although we cannot be sure, that the dress was worn by one of Gerlacus junior's sisters. Additional archive research may perhaps give us the answer, as in the case of the child's dress with pink ribbons (on show in Room 2) which we discovered had been worn by the above-mentioned Gerlacus junior.
