The sleeveless jacket, trousers and necklace are part of designer Mattijs van Bergen's spring collection, Complementair, in 2014. The work of painter Vincent van Gogh provided inspiration and Van Bergen translated Van Gogh's paintings into a colourful collection full of (digital) prints, hand painted fabrics and sumptuous materials. Just like the painter, Mattijs van Bergen also started off with a blank canvas. This comparatively simple look symbolises the source of the collection and is made from unbleached painter's linen. The only colourful accent in this outfit is the large butterfly in the copper necklace. The ornament is called Riph Pendant and refers to this particular butterfly’s Latin name: Urania Ripheus. Van Bergen encapsulates Van Gogh's love of nature in the accessory. The jewellery is all made by the designer's mother, Anneke van Bergen.
