Houten jurk uit de collectie 11:11

Houten jurk uit de collectie 11:11

Winde Rienstra graduated from the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht in 2009. She made her name with her innovative vision on craftmanship and technology. She achieves interesting contrasts by adapting materials by hand in combination with contemporary technology such as laser cutting. Rienstra experiments with materials which would not normally be associated with fashion, such as wood and glass, and is therefore seen by many to work on the boundaries of fashion, architecture and art. The wooden dress from the 11:11 collection in 2011 perfectly captures the different elements of Rienstra's work. Her fascination with wood comes from her belief that the patterns in the grain symbolise both the beauty and the grotesque aspects of life. The dress was created by constructing a complex cage of identical beechwood frames. The frames appear to float around the body, balancing on the meticulously spanned threads. This technique allows Rienstra to research the tension between the body and the clothes that we wear.
