The Malian designer Lamine Badian Kouyaté is well ahead of his time: as early as the 1990s, he brought the theme of sustainability to Paris Fashion Week by creating his
collections from found garments. A defining feature is the red stitching, which, like a backbone, a scar or perhaps a fault line, transforms waste into treasures. The name of
his label – XULY.Bët – is Malian for ‘keep your eyes open’.
