Ensemble 'Dekbedjas' bestaande uit jas, laken, hoes en ceintuur
Recycling is one of the most important trademarks of the Maison Martin Margiela conceptual fashion house. The mysterious Belgian designer Martin Margiela (1957) has given existing materials a new meaning right from the start of his first collections in 1988. This coat from the Artisanal collection is a perfect example of this: existing objects, old and new, have been transformed into new creations. The coat is made from a real feather Italian 'Featherlite' duvet. The only additions are two sleeves attached by zip fastenings. Different duvet covers give the coat a variety of looks, one being a second hand 1970's flower pattern, another a plastic rain cover. There is a simple, plain label in the coat, attached with the characteristic four white stitches on the outside of the garment. The choice of a plain label stems from the striving of the fashion house to remain anonymous.
