Organic areas of colour dance around each other in this painting. Jan van Deene arrived at an abstract style of painting during a stay in Paris in 1912. That same year, he also made a pair of paintings in which two people are represented as heads leaning against each other. Could this painting be an abstraction of that? Perhaps then this work is about depicting the energy between two people? [text 2026]
