This small cube-shaped house was Gerrit Rietveld’s first proposal for the design of a new house commissioned by Truus Schröder. Truus was not satisfied and together they created a different design: the now world-famous Rietveld Schröder House.
In this endearing model all the features of the actual house are visible: facades as three-dimensional compositions of surfaces and lines in white, grey, black, with accents of red, blue and yellow. Rietveld’s use of these primary colours was an influence of the De Stijl movement. The spacious construction with horizontal and vertical surfaces is reminiscent of his experimental furniture designs from previous years.
