Two dead pigs are unloaded at the old city weighing house. A man pulls a cart over the broken cobblestone pavement. The newly built Neo-Classical City Hall contrasts sharply with the dilapidated neighbouring buildings and the poorly maintained Dom Tower. That Utrecht’s city centre was in such a condition had everything to do with the economic circumstances of earlier centuries.
