Dinnertime for the Van Bochoven family. Father is about to read from the Bible. Andries the young painter stands at the back, brush poised in one hand, in the other a maulstick, with which he points to the names and dates of birth in the cartouche on the wall. Within four short years, Andries' (step)mother, one brother, one sister and he himself will all have died. This family portrait allowed his father to recall happier times – and to preserve the memory of the young artist. [text 2023]
