Italiaans rivierlandschap met stenen brug

Italiaans rivierlandschap met stenen brug

The Utrecht landscape painter Willem de Heusch signed most of his paintings with the French Guilliam or the Italian Giacomo. As other painters, such as Jan Baptist Weenix, he translated his name to demonstrate that he had been abroad. De Heusch travelled to Italy around 1640. He was an apprentice and follower of the Italianate painter Jan Both. His paintings are rather schematic in composition and his choice of subjects is limited.
