Vulnerable, moving and intriguing, all are words which may describe the work of the Columbian/Dutch fashion designer Aico Dinkla. His designs are the symbol of a life-long search for techniques and materials, for beauty and above all, for himself. His signature is original and identifiable, especially by the use of silicone glue in almost all of his collections. There are many stories wrapped in each item of clothing. The 'bird blouse' is from the 1980's which Dinkla altered. The jute bird, originally bought by his Dutch parents in Bogota in 1974, was added later. The necklace of Swarovski crystals was found in the designer's grandmother's dressing-up box. Dinkla's sister Iefke is subtly portrayed on the badge: she was for years the talented designer's muse. He made the radical decision to stop creating fashion in 2005, after which he cut up his complete collection and transformed it into 'paintings'.
