Seen from a distance the huge eyes on this red monster dress stare at you inquisitively. Bas Kosters made his name in the Dutch fashion world with his colourful, fantasy creations. Different faces are a recurring theme in his designs and seem to be a cartoon-like version of a self-portrait. Kosters owns a cushion from his childhood which expresses this image. His early years, which he associates with fantasy, happiness and freedom, are a never-ending source of inspiration. The first part of the Freedom collection concentrates on this happy childhood and the continuing wish to be independent. The second part - adulthood - show how Kosters' magical creations illustrate how to camouflage the worries, violence and crises that life brings. A pair of red clogs, the toes of which are painted with an open mouth with teeth, completes the outfit.
