The combination of beads, sequins and rhinestones and a delicate fabric, such as the transparent crêpe georgette of this evening dress exude the fashion of the Jazz Age. The dress is lined, except for the shoulders and the neck line, which are covered by only a single layer of crêpe. The low waistline of the dress is accentuated by a few turquoise beads. The graceful, vertical beading is reminiscent of a chain of abstract tulips. The radical change in the length of the hem, to just over the knee, and revealing female calves for the first time in the history of fashion, brought about a revolution. The design gives the wearer a freedom of movement that is ideal for the dances to the new music styles at the time. The play of light on the beads and sequins emphasises the movement of the body.
