The English fashion designer Vivienne Westwood is renowned for the sometimes shocking and often political messages that she delivers with her collections. Westwood often draws inspiration from, among other things, traditional 18th and 19th century clothing styles, combining them with, for example, punk influences. The original design for this hat dates from 1982, for the autumn/winter collection Nostalgia of Mud. The hat, known as Mountain Hat or Buffalo Hat, was inspired by the hats worn by traditional Peruvian women. Mountain Hat had a revival at the end of January, 2014 when singer Pharrel Williams wore a camel coloured version to the Grammy Awards. His hat even had its 'own' Twitter account.
