Who are you?
You are a service-oriented IT professional with a structured approach and an eye for both technology and the user. You communicate clearly, focus on solutions, and proactively identify opportunities for improvement to keep operations stable, secure, and user-friendly.
Who are we?
As the oldest municipal museum in the Netherlands, we welcome everyone. The museum’s programme is highly diverse: from the world’s largest Rietveld collection to Dick Bruna’s original studio, from the Utrecht Caravaggists to Charley Toorop, and from Jan Taminiau, contemporary art and design to the impressive seventeenth-century doll’s house and the famous centuries-old Utrecht ship. The Miffy Museum—the most fun museum for toddlers and preschoolers—and the Rietveld Schröder House are also part of Centraal Museum Utrecht. The museum’s collection comprises approximately 75,000 objects, gathered over the course of nearly 200 years. This collection serves as both the foundation and springboard for the programmes and projects through which the museum pursues its mission.
Together, our locations attract over 400,000 visitors. Our team consists of around one hundred colleagues and an equally large group of volunteers. We invite you to learn more: About the museum, How We Program, and Our team.
Where will you be working?
You will work in the Automation and Information Management department, which is part of Business Operations. You will report to the ICT Manager. Within the small ICT team, you will work independently while also coordinating closely with colleagues across the organisation and with external IT partners. The museum regularly organises social activities, such as a staff party, an end-of-year breakfast, a team outing or a team dinner.
What do we ask of you?
For this role, we are looking for someone with practical IT knowledge and a clear, service-oriented approach. We assess all candidates based on the same five competencies, focusing on specific behavior and relevant examples rather than a general sense of personal rapport.
Knowledge and level of education and thinking
- A completed level 4 secondary vocational education (MBO) qualification in an IT-related field, or demonstrably equivalent professional and intellectual ability.
- Practical knowledge of workplace management, preferably including Windows, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams, Office, Azure, network connections, and asset management.
- A willingness to learn new applications. Experience with Axiell Collections and APIs is welcome, but not required if you can demonstrate that you learn new systems quickly.
The five most important competencies
- Analytical and solution-oriented thinking You investigate an ICT problem step by step, distinguish between cause and effect, and choose an appropriate solution. You check whether the solution works and document relevant information.
- Service-oriented communication You listen carefully to the user, ask focused questions, and explain technical information calmly and clearly. You keep colleagues informed of progress and agreements in a timely manner.
- Planning, prioritizing and working carefully When multiple reports come in at the same time, you determine what needs to be done first. You work in a structured manner, keep track of agreements, and carefully maintain records and user permissions.
- Working independently and escalating in a timely manner You resolve problems independently where possible. You recognize when specialist support is needed, involve a colleague or external partner in a timely manner, and ensure a clear handover.
- Proactive improvement and learning You identify recurring bottlenecks, investigate patterns, and make actionable suggestions for improvement. You actively familiarize yourself with new systems and applications and share your knowledge with others.

- Describe an IT outage or technical issue that you investigated and resolved. What was the situation, how did you investigate the cause, what steps did you take, and what was the outcome?
- Give an example of a colleague or user who struggled with a system or did not immediately understand your explanation. How did you identify their question, adapt your explanation, and check whether they were able to proceed?

- Describe a recurring IT problem or a new application you encountered. What did you investigate or learn on your own, what improvement did you propose or implement, and what was the result?
