Together with care provider AxionContinu and other museums in Utrecht, we organize various programs to offer older people living in care facilities and their loved ones a cultural experience. The following programs have been developed as part of this collaboration:
On Friday Museum Day, residents of participating care facilities visit Utrecht’s museums. After coffee and a treat, experienced museum educators give them a tailored guided tour.
With Museum for a Day, museums visit residents at care facilities. Museum educators share stories and use objects from the collection to reminisce together.
With Museum voor Thuis, Utrecht's museums bring art to residents through videos. From the comfort of their own living rooms, they can watch and listen to the stories and details behind various works of art.
In creative workshops, residents create their own artwork under the guidance of an experienced workshop instructor. They draw inspiration from works of art in Utrecht’s museums.

For more than 15 years, Utrecht Museum Day has offered inspiring programmes that keep culture enthusiasts living in residential care centres engaged with our participating museums and heritage sites. We provide tailored cultural experiences and are committed to fostering a more inclusive society within the cultural sector.
Utrecht Museum Day is a joint initiative of the Association of Utrecht Museums and care organisation AxionContinu, made possible with financial support from the Van Baaren Foundation. We also have a unique partnership with the care organisations Vecht en IJssel, Careyn and Bartholomeus Gasthuis.
