Street Song (Mother Song Windows), 2026

Framework: Wineke Gartz
About the work
Wineke Gartz has a background in painting and currently works primarily with video and immersive installation. Her practice explores themes of stillness and movement, resistance, feminism, care for the Earth, and collectivity. This Framework Street Song (Mother Song Windows) addresses activism and the contribution an individual can make toward creating a better world.
The work features drawings that merge with graphic and geometric patterns. Gartz also incorporates self-recorded contemporary footage alongside historical material documenting protests and demonstrations. This material is drawn from her parents’ photographic and DVD archive and includes images of Women for Peace from the 1980s and 1990s, as well as elements from her mother’s “Sacred Dance” practice. Rhythm and color define the composition, creating a harmonious flow. Street Song (Mother Song Windows) can be viewed as Gartz’s personal contribution to positive change. The work considers how love and hope can be transmitted from one generation to the next, while also raising questions about the impact and contemporary relevance of earlier social movements.
About Raamwerk
For the Raamwerk, we invite an artist or collective to create a new work or adapt an existing one. The brief is for the work to tie in thematically with an exhibition on view at the museum at that time. In this way, we literally bring art beyond the museum’s walls.
