Focus on Flowers

This exhibition is part of the Van Baaren 70th anniversary programme. Lambertus (1888–1964) and Josephina (1890–1959) van Baaren were avid art collectors. Altogether, they acquired around 400 works, mainly paintings by French and Dutch artists dating from between 1850 and 1950. In 1956, the brother and sister established the Van Baaren Museum Foundation to safeguard their collection. In 1980, the foundation placed all the works on long-term loan with Centraal Museum. In addition to the exhibition in the Stadscolumn, the anniversary is being marked in two other locations in the museum. The Utrecht Lokaal featured Sophie Steengracht & Lydia Radda - Dream of a seed, an exhibition presenting the Van Baaren collection from a contemporary perspective. In Collectie Centraal, the ‘Tastes differ’ gallery was dedicated to the Van Baaren collection.

Blik op bloemen is on display in the Column. In the Column, we present exhibitions curated by the City Council. The City Council consists of seven Utrecht residents who live in neighbourhoods where the museum has a limited reach. They advise the museum on exhibitions and activities. The members of the City Council are active in their own neighbourhoods, know many people there and often do voluntary work.
