Dick Bruna's Studio
For many years, Dick Bruna (1927–2017) created his drawings and designs in his attic studio in Utrecht’s city centre. This studio now has a permanent home in the Centraal Museum.
At the Dick Bruna Studio, you feel very close to Dick Bruna, both as an artist and as a person. Here you can see where he drew and wrote texts on his typewriter, and where he welcomed publishers, Japanese fans, students and members of the press to his table. You can also discover what inspired him, including books and magazines about artists and designers. Bruna surrounded himself with all kinds of personal items: photographs, cards, gifts and notes. Every object in the Dick Bruna Studio, from the pencils to the filing cabinet, was once part of Bruna’s former workspace.
The work of Dick Bruna
The Dick Bruna Studio shows that Dick Bruna’s work extends far beyond his illustrations of Miffy and her friends, which were created for children. A series of changing displays highlights Bruna’s versatility, including his designs for the Zwarte Beertjes book series and for organisations such as Amnesty International and the Red Cross. Discover Bruna’s working methods and see how, time and again, he managed to capture the essence of an image.
