12 Juni 64 // Lieve Keetje en Florence Ik kreeg Hans lucht brief naar Menaggio van 5 Juni en ook ’n kaart in Como poste restante! Ik ben dan ook dik tevreden ook een brief van 17 Mei – Ik geloof wel dat alles aangekomen is! Hartelijk dank. // Vandaag 12 Juni zijn jullie dan in San Pedro and I wish you and Florence very happy days over there. When the holydays start I am going to send you again my best wishes and then when you are settling in N.Y.! It is so fine to take small (short) periods. We are now in Milan and will leave it Tuesday for Venetie and we intend to come back Rome [begin onderstreping] Saturday 20 June [einde onderstreping]. It is here n great difference with Menaggio and not quiet at all of course. I think it a little bit a pity but I expect Venetie will be again more quiet. Rietveld enjoyed peace and rest at Menaggio intensely and feels better than he did in years before. I also feel much better and much more quiet but the noise in the hotel (kitchen?) spoils my sleep more than the noise at home. We have not such a fine room as the first days we were here [begin onderstreping] which I can understand [einde onderstreping]. Now we went again shopping and did not find anything nice enough to give away. So we decided tot stop with it and may be we find some things in Venetië. We did our very best but it is awful, there are luxus things to find but no really nice things at all and sometimes awfully expensive It is very very warm here and we’ll spend Saturday and Sunday some where outside (Triënnale park or so) Han if ever you remember what year we have been in Milaan together, do tell me. There are for me so many herinneringen here. Scala kroegje bijv. bus of tram zitten n Triënnale etc. It is a much finer town by this- Nice and happy days ! to both of you together- I have to write sitting on my bed with a book underneath, [begin tekst in rechter kantlijn] Florence already a nice rest and Han nice working but not too much [einde tekst in rechter kantlijn]. // Never mind so Venedig ‘ll be still more appreciated. We bought today a nice linen dress between beige and brown and very plain and wellcut [begin doorhaling] ted [einde doorhaling] and at the la Rinascento but it was the only one to choose I was much surprised that Hanneke thought the card of Lausanne so nice. I do not remember well what card I send but I thought those guilded [begin doorhaling] pictures [einde doorhaling] sculptures I asked myself if we are so spoiled here that we ask too much? For it did not enjoy us this sculpture Gallery – although there was a single rather good thing in that Gallery but it was so dry the whole thing together at that part of the exhibition, but the metal (industrie and art) paviljon was very nice especially the interior of the “building” a kind of “Zelt”. To morrow we go tot he triennale if it is opened to day R. expects to have a telephone with Op ’t Land the Dutch arch. who restored the Paviljon in [begin doorhaling] in [einde doorhaling] Venedig and he will tell him what is of interest over there (triennale) so that we need not go and walk too far. Yrs Guup Truus [einde tekst in rechter kantlijn] // Yes but do you know Broers new house is in the Sportlaan near Kijkduin, with garden 8 m broad in front and at the back. No neighbours opposite; rooms along the broad side of the house on first and second plane about 6.58 x 3.50 which is much for a house in the row and also a balcony over the front south broadside from the house 2 m deep. I do not know how broad the house is but I suppose +/- 8 meter. They are very happy with it.
