This elegant ensemble was housed among other garments for many years in the wardrobes of the former manor house in Heenvliet in Zuid-Holland. Many generations had lived in the house, named 'de Heren van de Heerlijkheid Heenvliet', including the last descendant, Cornelia Maria Lamaison (1845-1942).The three piece ensemble, comprising a bolero, skirt and belt was probably worn by Cornelia Maria Lamaison herself. After Cornelia's death in 1942, her heirs bequeathed the clothing to the Centraal Museum. They wrote to Carla de Jonge: "We discover extremely unusual and beautiful finds as we open the wardrobes, and as we know that you are interested in clothing history, we are pleased to be able to send you a few especially beautiful dresses and hats."
