Crinoline

Crinolines or hoop skirts helped nineteenth-century women create the sought-after but unrealistic hourglass figure. Fashion trends undulate as the volumes of clothes shrink and swell – with shifting emphasis on different body shapes. Those who follow fashion can distinguish themselves from the pack. The crinoline experienced its peak around 1850, its diameter reaching an impressive three-and-a-half metres. [text 2025]
