Carla de Jonge - former director and curator- received this ball gown from her cousin Annette Lucie Koch-van Rappard (1857-1928) in 1922. This cream coloured, silk dress with large puffed sleeves was created at the Parisian fashion house Emile Pasquier. The fashion house’s label is on the inside of the bodice and has especially been made visible for this exhibition. This jacquard weave dress is lavishly decorated with sequins, silver thread and beads. Such luxurious decoration may unfortunately influence the condition of the dress and, as in this case, cause irreparable damage to the fabric. It is now only possible to exhibit the dress lying flat but this does not make it any less beautiful.
