Mutu uses clichéd images of mothers, virgins and goddesses as source material for her collages which are complex and contradictory – like this print of a mother and child, which seems simultaneously futuristic and ancient. A snake grows out of the mother’s hair, evoking all kinds of associations with Medusa’s snake hair or the snake that tempted Eve to pluck the forbidden fruit. [text 2025]
