Misty Man paints a portrait of a man who is accused of theft. The film alternates 8mm footage from the end of the 1950s with more recent footage Blom shot in Suriname. We hear a woman reading a letter from the book Disorderly Families (1982) by Arlette Farge and Michel Foucault. This book consists of letters from the archives of the Bastille: often pleas to the judge to lock up a spouse or child for tormenting their family, but we also hear a voice whispering a Native American Dakota battle song.
