The influence of western visual culture extends to rural Bangladesh. There, advertisements promote western products, crowding out local organic food – undesirable imperialism, according to Bengali artist collective Britto Arts Trust. Rasad is their expression of resistance to globalisation, which comes with chemical pesticides, fertilisers and manipulated seeds. The collective ordered the products from their ‘shop set-up’ from dozens of local producers. The installation showed at Documenta 15 in Kassel in 2022 and has been partially rebuilt here. [text 2024]
