Sara Sejin Chang filmed her own allotment in Tuinwijck, in the northeast of Amsterdam, for a year. Chang’s camera traces the changing colours and forms of leaves, the emergence, decomposition and death of plants and the garden’s other inhabitants and visitors. The film is concerned not with spectacle and endless growth, but rather with the slow passage of time. The result is a meditative film in which the seasons succeed each other and the cycle of life and death rules. It is a reappraisal of time and is in stark contrast to the idea of linear and infinite growth. [text 2021]
