Good Man
Ed Atkins makes unsettling video works, linking his own facial expressions to standard 3D models for games and animated films. Here, the stereotypical image of an old man looks at the viewer sadly from a distant past. Despite the rain, a candle is burning and the title shows that he is a good man. Using brand-new techniques, Atkins plucks at the heartstrings, just as the Caravaggists did 500 years earlier. [text 2023]
