In 2019, Antonis Pittas worked in the studio home of De Stijl artist Theo van Doesburg (1883-1931), in the Parisian suburb of Meudon. He explored the political influence of the De Stijl movement, which sought to change the world through art and design. Meanwhile, ‘yellow vests’ demonstrated in the city centre. Act refers to their outfit which unites far-left and far-right insurgents in the struggle for change. Their underlying divisions remind Pittas of the collapse of the modernist dream: ‘We are now living in turbulent times and looking back at a utopian ideal.’ [text 2024]
