‘The kaftans are fused landscapes of colour and materials.’

Yasmina Ajbilou has been translating her vision of sustainability, beauty and strength into fashion through her label House of Useless since 2018. In this contemporary kaftan, she has woven personal stories, reflecting on traditions and techniques she knows from her Moroccan background. ‘This kaftan depicts a girl balancing two snakes on her head. This represents the two cultures that I find myself between. I see it as a search for my cultural identity.’ [text 2024]

Yasmina Ajbilou

Na haar afstuderen aan de Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht (HKU) richt Yasmina Ajbilou in 2018 haar label House of Useless op. Het is een verwijzing naar haar ambitie voor duurzamere mode: ‘use-less’. In haar atelier in Utrecht verweeft ze persoonlijke verhalen in haar ontwerpen. Zelf omschrijft Ajbilou haar ontwerpen als "humanwear" (genderneutraal) duurzaam en geëngageerd. Voor haar solotentoonstelling Silhouetten, creëert ze kaftans die haar persoonlijke verhalen reflecteren.
