Hanae Mori was the first Asian couturier to join the prestigious Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne in 1977. Mori's stylised, asymmetric designs combine Japanese and European elements. Her first couture show in 1965 in New York was called East meets West. In this respect, Mori has been a great inspiration for the younger generation of Japanese designers, including Kenzo, Issey Miyake and Rei Kawakubo, founder of Comme des Garçons. [text 2023]
