Jacoba Haas is familiar to many as the 'muse' of artist Willem Wagenaar, but it was actually her surrealist work that inspired Wagenaar to start painting again. He’d stopped when the Nazis destroyed all of his art. Together, the pair founded the Surrealist Society. In The Last Supper, Haas depicts its core members, including Joop Moesman, as the disciples of Jesus, gathered at their last meal before the crucifixion. [text 2023]
